WOMEN ALLIANCE OF MIAMI DADE & BROWARD, INC.

Women Alliance of Miami Dade and Broward, Inc. was founded in 1998 at a time when being an immigrant, especially of Haitian descent, carried the stigma of “boat people.” During that time, undocumented migrants were faced with a great deal of challenges. People were fleeing their country of origin for fear of being persecuted. They were victims of gross human rights violations, and of social economic disadvantages.
Our Haitian population was faced with a language barrier, cultural mistrust and fear of the government. As a result of these obstacles, they were often discriminated against, stigmatized, and victimized at all levels.
The Women’s Alliance of Miami Dade and Broward, Inc. was born out of this necessity to educate, inform, protect, and positively impact that immigrant population.
